Title: Four Times That Abby Felt Lost and the One Time She Didn't: The Beginning
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing/Character: Gibbs/Abby
Completed: No.
Rating: PG
Prompt: Table 1, prompt 4: lost
Summary: Abby had never felt this lost, but she is determined to make things right.
1. The Beginning
Abby tugged on the edge of the pink patterned, wool blend skirt she was wearing as she tried to find her way around the base.
She was hopelessly lost.
Abby hated this feeling more than anything else in the world, especially when she didn’t even look like herself, but she needed this job.
Rent was late, her boyfriend had broken up with her leaving her with more bills than she could handle and she missed being in a lab and solving puzzles even more than she had ever comprehended.
She was getting her life back, and damned if she was going to let a badly drawn map from Maureen in Human Resources get in her way.
“Excuse me,” a brisk male voice interrupted her search and she spun, almost falling off the too short heels she was wearing.
God who had invented those things in the first place?
“Hi,” she responded, smiling at the grey haired man standing in front of her.
What a silver fox.
“Can I help you find something?” he asked, barely looking up from the file he was holding.
“Uhm…I’m Abby Sciuto, I’m the new-”
“Forensic analyst, and ballistics specialist,” he continued. “I’m Gibbs.”
Abby’s eyes widened, “Special Agent Gibbs. I didn’t mean to be late, I just…I’m-”
“Don’t apologize, it shows weakness,” Gibbs responded. “And it’s Gibbs. I’ll show you how to get to your lab.”
Abby nodded, hurrying behind him she stumbled as she tried to catch up, making a soft surprised noise when he turned to catch her in his arms, righting her.
“And Abs,” he called her name as she entered the elevator.
Eyes widening in surprise Abby peered out from the elevator, looking at him. “Yes S-Gibbs?” she asked.
“I know this isn’t how you normally dress, be yourself if you’re going to be here,” he pushed the button for the doors to close.
Abby smiled to herself, leaning back against the wall.
She could feel the lost feeling dwindling already.
