Title: Four Times That Abby Felt Lost and the One Time She Didn't: Middles
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing/Character: Gibbs/Abby
Completed: No.
Rating: PG
Prompt: Table 1, prompt 4: lost
Summary: Abby always chose the wrong men, and when she finds the right one she still feels lost.

Abby wasn’t very good with men, when it came down to knowing how to pick ‘em she definitely did not.

None of them saw her worth, absolutely none of them. She was too goth, not dirty enough, too dirty, too thin, too chubby, too loud, too quiet.

She never felt quite right.

She didn’t hate herself though, no. Abby knew what she was, and knew that she couldn’t be anything but herself to make the right person happy.

She was beautiful, curvaceous, tall and just loud enough, especially where it counted.

It didn’t discount the feeling of being lost she got whenever someone dumped her though, because in the end she was just looking for the same thing that everything else was. A companion, someone to come home to at night.

“You okay Abs?” Gibbs asked as he strode into the lab, file in hand.

Abby nodded her head, her pigtails bobbing slightly as she did so. “Yeah,” she murmured the word into her hand, propping her head up with it. “What can I do for you today?” she asked, turning slowly on her stool and looking at him.

She felt even more lost when he showed up, which was amazing because he had once been the light which led her through the maze.

“I just wanted to see if you had your reports filed on our last case, as well as the retyped evidence catalogue,” Gibbs responded, the words a lie although he did need those things.

There were moments when he just wanted to see her.

Abby pulled out the file, and the evidence log handing both sheets to him with a smile. “Here you go,” she told him. “No Caf Pow?” she tilted her head to the side raising both eyebrows.

“Oh you mean this?” Gibbs handed the plastic cup to her, dropping a kiss onto her upturned cheek, a small smile crossing his lips as he did so.

“Thank you,” she threw her arms around his shoulders and squeezed lightly, closing her eyes as she did so and taking in the warmth of his body.

Gibbs wrapped his arms around her, cradling her close he kissed her temple softly then stepped back, clearing his throat. “You looked like you needed it,” he told her gruffly, turning and walking out with both files and leaving her alone.

Lost.

Yeah that was definitely how she felt watching him walk away from her.
